چکیده

In order to study the transfer of water borne 1 J , Cs and *°Sr into rice plants, pot experiments were done by growing rice plants on soils taken from rice beds near two nuclear power plants: Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant and Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant in China. The vertical migration of '"Cs and ''Sr in the soil samples due to leaching was studied, and results show that almost all the contaminants were retained in the top 1 cm of soil, with at most a few percent down to 3 cm of soil. The transport factors (TF) of l 3 7 Cs and w Sr were studied by adding various activity concentrations of the two radionuclides to the irrigation water and then measuring the activity concentration in the various rice tissues. The TF were also analysed for their dependence on soil characteristics, tunc and duration of the contamination.

Metal(loid) uptake of Sonchus oleraceus grown around Cheshmeh-Konan copper deposit, NW Iran

Heavy metal(loid) contamination in the environment of mining areas has become an important problem. Cheshemeh-Konan is one of the main copper deposits in NW Iran that is currently abandoned. In the present work, the intensity of some metal(loid) pollutions in the soil of the mining area was assessed using three reliable indices. In addition, the potential of Sonchus oleraceus L., as th...

Nitrogen Fertilizer by Two Rice Cultivars Grown on an Arkansas Clay Soil

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) grown on a clay soil in a direct-seeded, delayed-flood system as used in the southern U.S. requires 30 to 60 lb/acre more nitrogen (N) fertilizer to achieve maximal grain yields compared to rice grown on silt loam soils. Seasonal N fertilizer accumulation studies are almost non-existent for rice grown on clay soils. Therefore, a two-year field study was conducted to evalu...

A Study of Systematic Uncertainties in the Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment using the GLoBES Software

The Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment is designed to set a precision upper limit on, if not pin-point, the value of the θ13 neutrino oscillation parameter. As shown in the parameterized Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata matrix, accurate measurement of θ13 may enable the study of CP violation in the lepton sector, in addition to supporting our understanding of neutrino oscillation arising from ...

The Effect of Rice Husk Ash on Mechanical Properties of Clayey Soils Stabilized with Lime in the Presence of Sulphate

Geotechnical engineers, in many cases face with low strength or high swelling potential of clayey soils. Stabilization methods are used to improve the mechanical properties of this type of soils. Lime and cement are the most popular materials used in chemical stabilization of clayey soils. If sulphate exists in the stabilized clayey soil with lime, or if soil is exposed to sulphates, problems s...

Zinc Fertilization of Rice Grown on Clay Soils in Arkansas

Zinc (Zn) fertilizer is not currently recommended for rice grown on clay or clay loam soils in Arkansas. In 2003, eight field sites were established to evaluate the response of rice grown on clay soils to Zn fertilization. Shortly before or after seeding, granular Zn fertilizer was applied to the soil surface at rates of 0, 5, 10, and 20 lb Zn/acre. Tissue Zn concentration 10 to 14 days after f...
